Puzzle 1: Care for Cakes
The fist puzzle in Layton’s Mystery Journey is “Care for Cakes.” In this puzzle, you need to take three triangles and arrange them inside a white box to make the letter “K.”
For a prologue puzzle, this one is tricky. At first, it looks like you use the triangles themselves to somehow create the letter, but this is misleading. The trick is to look outside the triangle. Arrange the triangles so that they act as the white space of the “K,” while the actual white space of box forms the “K” itself.
Puzzle 2: The Hands of Time
Puzzle 2, The Hands of Time is another misleading one. This one is a riddle. A face clock reads 3:30, but you want it to read 12:00. What is the minimum number of times you need to touch the clock to make it read 12:00?
Naturally, you would first assume two, once to move the hour hand, and once to move the minute hand. This is wrong.
Think about it a second time, and you might think one. All you’d need to do is move the minute hand, and the hour hand will move on its own. Once again, this is wrong.
The correct answer is zero. If you just leave the clock alone for eight hours and thirty minutes, it will eventually read 12:00 all on its own.
Yeah, that puzzle is a little troll-y.
Puzzle 3: Bubble Blast
Puzzle 3, Bubble Blast, is a sequencing puzzle. There ae a bunch of numbered bubbles, and you need to match the numbers to make the bubbles pop. You need the number of bubbles to be equal to or greater than the number on the bubbles. For example, you can pop the “2” bubbles by matching two, three, or more bubbles to each other.
The tricky part is that you only get nine moves. Here is a step-by-step illustration on how to clear the board:
1. Start from the beginning 2. Add a 5 ball to the top
3. Clear the group of 4’s 4. Clear the column of 5’s
5. Clear the 3’s using a group of four: 6: Clear the second group of 3’s
7. Fill the right column with 4’s 8. Clear the 4’s
Then just clear the last 2 ball, and you’ve solved it!
